Be Happy

Finally. It occurred to me WHY I enjoy performing on Holland America’s ships. I’ve been mentioning them quite often of late; because the company generously hires me with regularity to perform my comedy magic show onboard their vessels. There’s much to like. The cabins, the food, the employees on the ship, are all top notch. I love to travel and for the first time they’re letting my wife come...

Be Grateful

I just put on Echo and Bunnymen, so get ready to sit back and chill. Having returned from the panama canal, a cruise I was performing on courtesy of Holland America Line, I’m pretty stoked. This year they’ve been super generous and booked me to headline their ships across the globe.  I look ...

Lifestyle

Visited a friend in the hospital. One of the older acts I first met when I came to Toronto show business.   He’s one of the best comedy magicians I’ve ever seen. He was about to go in for a quadruple bypass.  I can only imagine the stress of knowing doctors are going to crack open your breast plate and fiddle with your heart. The operation was completed just the other day and he’s fine. So tha...

New Year

“This just might do nobody any good”.  The opening to one of the most epic speeches in the history of broadcast. Happy new year.  2018 is here. What are your resolutions??? One of mine is to never use that image at the top of this post again ;) Not sure what my plans are for this trip around the sun, but our history will be what we make of it. I asked myself what my hero’s might do to ...

Terminology

There’s a distinction. Comedy magician and comedian / magician. Interestingly, and maybe annoyingly, magicians seem to use the terms interchangeably. It needs to be dealt with, because there’s a big difference between a magician with some funny lines in their show and a magician who’s actually a COMEDIAN. I used to think that if you had a comedy club background, by that I mean actually pe...

Fix it in post

“We’ll fix it in post” I’ve been lazy about posting. Exhausted more like it.  Between normal performances at corporate events, my kid and new work opportunities, it’s been a mess. Travel has occupied my life.  In the last week, I’ve travelled to Los Angeles for a week and then returned home to perform at a corporate after dinner holiday party. The LA portion of this trip had nothing to...

Communication

“For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk “ – Stephen Hawking A prominent and pretty famous magician, one whom I’ve admired since I was a kid sent me a message not long ago. He’d seen me perform on the television show Penn and Teller Fool Us and wanted to let ...

Conference Entertainment

I’ve had a day to digest it., this show 24 hours ago at the White Oaks resort in Niagara on the lake, Ontario. I’d say it was easily in the top 5 performances of my 25 year career in comedy & magic. Show for a small corporate audience. I got a standing O and an encore. These things happen with some regularity, but this encore, the audience was banging on the tables for it. People were li...

I Don’t Know Whats Wrong with Magic

That's a crazy photo for this blog post. You know its bad when you're using something like that. Unbelievable by EMF came on the radio. In 1993 ( I think ) I saw Jeff McBride perform at Abbott's Magic Get Together. He used that song as he and a young man from the...
