Nashville’s House of Cards

I just finished performing a week at the fabulous House of Cards in Nashville, TN. USA. As you can see by the photo, making an audience member laugh is the best thing a performer can do, the second best to have to have Carter the Great smell you're armpit. Its a long story. There were 28 shows in a week of packed theatres...

2019 Gratitude

It’s here.  I'm full of gratitude for 2019. I’m pretty stoked. 2018 was a year filled with awesome.  New friends, and new performing adventures. We had the whole family for holiday dinner at the house, my kid got another year older and I worked on a couple of fun new routines for the show.  I'...

Thank you~ last post of the year

Last post of 2018. A short one. I wanted to say that I’m SO VERY grateful to all the agents, event planners, producers, friends, theatres and cruise lines that booked me in 2018. I must say Holland America Line was a stand out this year. HAL took me to many interesting places in the world. It’s nice to get a Standing Ovation one night and then jog the beach in Hawaii the next. I always tel...

2019 : I Wonder Whats Gonna Happen

I have three shows left in 2018. Two corporate events and a performance at a resort north of Toronto. I think that’s about the right number. I’m looking forward to a break over the holidays. I’ve no idea how in my 20’s, I used to do 5 or 6 shows in a day in December and run all over Toronto doing them. Madness. I now make more money doing just 4 shows in December than I did when I was doing...

Be here now, and other news

The best things I’ve got in showbusiness are from friends. BY FAR. What I mean is that I've had to be ready with the act, I always had to have the show to actually work the TV shows, cruise ships, casinos, comedy festivals etc I’ve done over the years but the initial “in” to working those places always came from another act who’s a friend. I only mention it because today on Facebook I sa...

M.I.T. and Boston

So, I performed this past weekend at the Edmonton Comedy Festival. That was a fantastic experience and I’d welcome the chance to go back. The shows were really fun! If you’re in Edmonton or going to be there while next year’s festival is running, make sure you buy tickets to the shows. They get the best of the best talent. Now that’s over I’m back to the normal run of corporate after ...

Showbiz Travel

I live my life in airports and hotels. I liken it to the guy from the 80’s TV show Quantum Leap. I leap from airport to airport, hoping the next leap is the leap home. Professionally speaking I would never agree to travel and shows on a schedule like I'm about to describe. Occasionally your agent will convince you it’s a good idea and you say yes and roll with it. It’s never a good idea. Tw...

Corporate Performance

I performed at the JW Marriott is Muskoka, Ontario a few nights ago. A corporate event for tradespeople. It was SO much fun. I love the venue and the show was amazing. So wonderful having a bunch of tradespeople laughing and coming up to me after the show telling me stories from working the trades. My own family are all in the trades so there’s a special place in my heart for events attended ...

Details of Art

It’s all in the details. Artistically I love to noodle around with details of my performance. Subconscious things the audience doesn’t actually notice but can impact them.I’ve realized lately that my shows have been stronger because I’ve been finessing the staging and lighting.  Most importantly the PRE SHOW staging and lighting. It occurred to me ( maybe finally ) that what an audience s...

I cover the Waterfront

Perhaps it was the days at sea without land or perhaps it was the fantastic mood I was in from absolutely killing it for my performances on Holland America’s ship the MS Amsterdam, or maybe It was that I had good fortune to work with highly creative acts, but whatever the reason, it was one of the most productive weeks in recent times. I joined the ship in Guatemala, and sailed up to Mexico ...
