Last post of 2018.
A short one.
I wanted to say that I’m SO VERY grateful to all the agents, event planners, producers, friends, theatres and cruise lines that booked me in 2018. I must say Holland America Line was a stand out this year. HAL took me to many interesting places in the world. It’s nice to get a Standing Ovation one night and then jog the beach in Hawaii the next. I always tel...

I have three shows left in 2018. Two corporate events and a performance at a resort north of Toronto. I think that’s about the right number. I’m looking forward to a break over the holidays. I’ve no idea how in my 20’s, I used to do 5 or 6 shows in a day in December and run all over Toronto doing them. Madness. I now make more money doing just 4 shows in December than I did when I was doing...

The best things I’ve got in showbusiness are from friends. BY FAR.
What I mean is that I've had to be ready with the act, I always had to have the show to actually work the TV shows, cruise ships, casinos, comedy festivals etc I’ve done over the years but the initial “in” to working those places always came from another act who’s a friend.
I only mention it because today on Facebook I sa...

To quote the movie Risky Business
“Sometimes you gotta say "What the Fuck", make your move. Joel, every now and then, saying "What the Fuck", brings freedom. Freedom brings opportunity, opportunity makes your future.”
Miles, portrayed by Curtis Armstrong, was right. I’ve largely based my career on this one simple thought.
I just spent 11 days on the Holland America’s cruise ship The MS Ro...

So, I performed this past weekend at the Edmonton Comedy Festival.
That was a fantastic experience and I’d welcome the chance to go back. The shows were really fun!
If you’re in Edmonton or going to be there while next year’s festival is running, make sure you buy tickets to the shows. They get the best of the best talent.
Now that’s over I’m back to the normal run of corporate after ...

I live my life in airports and hotels. I liken it to the guy from the 80’s TV show Quantum Leap. I leap from airport to airport, hoping the next leap is the leap home.
Professionally speaking I would never agree to travel and shows on a schedule like I'm about to describe. Occasionally your agent will convince you it’s a good idea and you say yes and roll with it. It’s never a good idea.

I performed at the JW Marriott is Muskoka, Ontario a few nights ago. A corporate event for tradespeople. It was SO much fun. I love the venue and the show was amazing. So wonderful having a bunch of tradespeople laughing and coming up to me after the show telling me stories from working the trades. My own family are all in the trades so there’s a special place in my heart for events attended ...

I’ve been here in Alaska for the better part of the summer. Two and a half more weeks to go. Its been a blast, Holland America, the cruise line as a whole, has such a wonderful corporate culture it bleeds across the entire fleet of ships. I’ve worked A LOT of cruise lines. Holland really does know how to make their employees feel at home, comfortable and most importantly feel like they have...

I’ve recently had my website completely redesigned by a FANTASTIC company in New Zealand called NokNok. Google them up if you need work done to your site, they’re great to work with. Now that’s done its good to be back online.
I also had the great fortune to perform on another one of Holland America’s fine ships; the Amsterdam, to Alaska for 2 weeks in July sailing out of Seattle. The fine p...

Agents, Speakers Bureaus, Event Planners. These are THE most important resource a corporate entertainer has. As a Toronto based, but internationally performing corporate event entertainer here's my thinking on this topic :
I'll start off with a bad example and move on. An agent I'd heard of ( with a horrific reputation ) and...
